Annual Rivanna River downriver canoe & kayak race in Charlottesville, VA. The downriver race will follow the same schedule as previous years… 6.2-mile downriver race.
Where? Paddlers assemble at registration/start line under the Route 29 bridge north of Charlottesville (just north of the DoubleTree Hotel/Sam’s Club on the upstream side of the bridge off Rio Mills Road.) Race finish line is 6.2 miles later at the boat ramp in Darden Towe Park on the east side of Charlottesville.
First place paddlers may finish by approx. 10:45am. Awards ceremony will be held at Darden Towe boat ramp shortly after the last racer completes the race (estimated 12:30-1pm.)
All competitors must pre-register – there will be no in-person registration! See the following link for more information and for registration.
Parking and Shuttle
Boats will need to be dropped off at the starting line at Rio Mills Rd prior to the race. There is very limited space for parking at the race start. It is strongly encouraged that you park your vehicle at Darden Towe Park (race end location), and take advantage of the free shuttle provided by the Rivanna River Company. Race shuttles will depart Darden Towe at 8:15 AM and 9:00 AM.
Parking at Darden Towe Park will be in specific designated areas as directed by race staff. There will be assistance to help transport boats after the race.
